![]() This was nothing like my previous experience at that other place years ago. Mentioned that one should only go there for special occasions type thing. ![]() I had heard good things about the place but I had also heard that it was kind of pricey. When my husband mentioned going to Fogo De Chao in downtown Indianapolis this past holiday season, I was skeptical. The experience was sub par at best and I was not impressed. I do not remember the name of the place and it is probably no longer in business anyway. Several years ago, my husband and I tried one of these Brazilian dinner experiences - when this was the new and upcoming thing in dining. I got a nice email back and we had a fine dinner. I just emailed back and said save us a spot and my rationale for not signing anything. I was just organizing for a group not paying. The first part was fine - we were not going to cancel. The agreement basically stated I would pay money if we did not show, plus all charges would be on the card that I gave them. I brought a group of 20 here, and they emailed an agreement that I had to sign and add credit card information for the reservation. They do have a strange group reservation policy. If it is pouring, then go here and step out of your car basically right into the restaurant. The valet parking is cheap and convenient. Salad bar is great and the Parmesan pork is awesome, not to mention the steak (obviously). The ambiance is not really for a family, so we do not take our two boys, but we meet friends here about once a year for a nice dinner. It is a bit pricey for a regular place to eat, but if you eat during Devour Downtown, this becomes a great deal. There's a few I would absolutely avoid, not so much because they're bad per se, but that I've eaten at other locations and/or think they're sub-par given the number of choices I've listed above (a little bit like the "I've eaten there, but didn't make the top tier list).Fogo is a great place for finer dining in a quieter atmosphere. Ones I haven't eaten at, but would consider include: cerulean (already on your list) Greek Island (it's been on my try it out one of these days list for decades) Harry & Izzy's and Plow & Anchor (chain?). Elmo (although it might if someone else was paying), Ones I've eaten at & think are okay (but didn't make it into the top tier): Claddagh, Maxine's, Ram, and St. ) mesh (also Mass Ave) and Oceanaire (ditto chain, but. Ones that I have eaten at and would eat at again include: Adobo Grill (high end tequila bar & good food, the guac is made at your table) Bazbeaux Pizza (along Mass Ave) Bru Burger (ditto) Fogo de Chao (meat & more meat, but they also have a good salad bar, yes it's a chain, but. I just skimmed the website's list of restaurants and have a few comments: ![]() I have know idea if they are participating or not, but. Lastly, I'll just name a few of the "iconic" downtown Indy eateries off the top of my head: Shapario's, St. While you've provided us some information (dates, one you're thinking of doing, & "chain" info), I'm going to repeat my standard advice to those new to the TA forums, giving more information/details in your question usually results in more & better responses.Ĥ. ![]() As you commented there are SO many choices, can you give us any direction (beyond a preference for independent restaurants)? Are there cuisines you like/dislike, do you want to be able to walk (where are you staying), any ambiance you'd prefer, any price point/budget, etc.ģ. That said, it's only got a dozen or so locations.Ģ. You indicated you preferred not a chain, but does that include "small" chains? For example: Fogo de Chao (sp?) is one of my favorites in downtown Indy, but it is a chain. It's a little stale (and I didn't review it), but the Indy restaurant scene hasn't changed that much (especially at the "iconic" end of the scale).Īlso, be aware that subject creep means that restaurants are sometimes mentioned even though the subject line might not indicate it.ġ. Here's one from a while back on "iconic" restaurants: Restaurants/eating are a fairly common topic on this forum (more so downtown options) and my suggestion is that you skim the forum (it's pretty low traffic so there aren't that many threads).
